BRUSSELS. Unprecedented heat is a concern for wheat and rapeseed in Western Europe. High stocks are weighing on Turkey’s appetite for corn. Signals are encouraging for soybeans.

Heat is an issue for wheat in Europe

With Western Europe sweltering under a heatwave the European Commission has been prompted to revise the projections for the EU soft wheat crop downwards. While the forecast still stood at 127.3 million mt in April, it has now been reduced to 126.9 million mt. Production reached 135 million mt in the previous season. Yet, the Commission has left the export forecast unchanged at 29.7 million mt. At 14.1 million mt the EU wheat stock estimate also stands 500,000 mt lower than in April.
