Grains and oilseeds: Middle East tensions prevail

BRUSSELS. Analysts have issued new production estimates for wheat in the EU and in Turkey. Harvesting is slow for corn in Brazil. The tensions in the Middle East over Iran and Israel are lingering in the background for soy and rapeseed.

New production estimates for wheat

Disappointing tender results in Algeria have put a lid on rising EU wheat quotations that were prompted by an upturn in Chicago. Algeria’s state grain agency OAIC bought 500,000 mt of milling wheat from suppliers in Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine with prices ranging at USD 244.50-245.00/mt C&F. Shipments should arrive by 10-31 August. Officials rejected French offers due to diplomatic problems. Rumour also has it that Morocco purchased three shipments of unknown origin.
