Grains and oilseeds: Trump not really getting his way in China

BRUSSELS. EU wheat is rather uncompetitive. Ukraine has lost valuable market shares for corn. Trump’s plan is not working out for US soybeans in China. Palm oil demand could be better for rapeseed.

Uncompetitive EU wheat

Western European wheat has recently profited from a weak euro. After Algeria purchased milling wheat at peak prices of USD 263-264/mt C&F last week export sales have now slowed. December shipments of Argentinian wheat (11.5%) cost USD 209-212/mt FOB, Black Sea wheat USD 227-229/mt FOB and French wheat USD 225-228/mt FOB Rouen. Argentinian wheat is thereby much more competitive than EU wheat, especially in important importing countries in North Africa.
