Summer droughts are still a forewarning threat, but the recent hailstorms inflicted irreparable damages to fields in some regions.

If summer droughts would differentiate between a weak and a strong corn harvest for the upcoming season, the hailstorms, which heavily hit parts of the North regions a few days ago, made it quite clear: no crop where hailstorms hit!

Corn: hailstorms – the bane for farmers

SOFIA. Hailstorms fell in particular areas in some regions of the country, but where they hit, they did not miss! According to local farmers from the west and central North regions, some of them lost it all. A local farmer could not recognize his corn fields, which a day before the storm hit, had looked so green and fresh: “I lost all; I simply did. Because of hailstorms, the corn stalks were not just broken, but they were literally hammered down into the ground. I could not recognize my fields after the storms.” The old, but always relevant agricultural adage “do not put all of your eggs in a single basket” applies in full force at the current situation.
