Hazelnuts: First bankruptcies in the hazelnut industry

ORDU. The Turkish central bank's 6.25% interest rate hike is leading to more stable hazelnut prices. Growers meanwhile continue to hold back their raw nuts.

Rise in prices not stopped in time
Big buyer Ferrero is not yet prepared to adjust its bid price to the higher prices demanded for raw nuts and only small quantities are being offered as a result. The TMO has still not commented on bid prices. Rumour has it that this is to allow Ferrero to maintain the low purchase price for longer.

Growers are holding back their products and have raised their asking price from 15 TRY/kg to 20 TRY/kg. The situation has already caused to the first shellers in Turkey to file for bankruptcy. A major exporter has, however, made it
