ORDU. With buyers showing increased purchase activities demand has revived for now at least. The further development of prices, however, largely depends on the farmgate prices.

Farmgate prices have dropped

As the Islamic sacrifice feast is drawing near many farmers are forced to accept lower prices to pay their workforce. Farmgate prices have dropped as low as 9.00 TRY/kg. The TMO prices may range higher at 10.00-10.50 TRY/kg, but due the fees it hardly makes a difference if the farmers sell to the state or to the market.

More small kernels than expected

In the meantime, the harvest season has reached its climax. Arrivals have increased over the last few days. Shellers report that the number of small kernels is higher than previously anticipated, which renders it highly likely that the prices for compounds consisting of small kernels (i.e. hazelnut meal) may drop.
