ORDU. Initial estimates circulating about the extent of the frost damage for the 2025 crop are highly discouraging. The TMO has stopped selling hazelnuts and buyers are responding differently to the current market situation.

Discouraging news

Initial news about the frost damage is far from encouraging with speculations running wild. Early estimates indicate that as much as 100,000-150,000 mt or 15-30% of the 2025 crop may be lost. Yet, the exact extent of the damage is still uncertain with more clarity only expected to emerge after the orchards have been viewed in around one to two weeks.

At present it is, however, clear that different regions have been affected in varying degrees. While only gardens above an altitude of 500 metres have been impacted in Trabzon, Giresun and Ordu
