Hazelnuts: Prices are expected to rise in 2018/19

ORDU. Although this year’s production has only just been completed, the market already has next year’s crop in view. Prices are expected to rise.

 

2017/18 vs 2018/19

In 2017/18, Turkey shipped a total of 286,777 mt of hazelnut kernels worth USD 1.78 billion overseas. The average export price was 6,215 USD/mt. Almost 70,000 mt were exported to Germany, more than 57,000 mt went to Italy and 20,000 mt to France. This totals 50% of all exports in 2017/18.

By mid-October 2017 exports had already reached 53,621 mt. In 2018/19, however, only 47,959 mt of hazelnut kernels have been exported from Turkey to date, a decline of 10% over last year. What renders this figure surprising, is that the ave
