ORDU. Several challenges prevail for hazelnuts with a difficult season about to start. Prices are unworkable and exports have slowed.

Troublesome crop

This year’s crop is struggling with several challlenges. Although first assessments indicate that the brown marmorated stink bug has created less damage than in the past two years, stink bug infestations are quite a problem for some farmers along with the spring frost. This is impacting yields and quality. Small farmers report that they have only been able to extract as little as 20 sacks from their orchards, whereas 500 sacks were in for them last year. Seasonal workers are also having a hard time finding jobs as harvesting is being completed
