ORDU. When prices are falling and the overall crop prospects are good, farmers have to find a different means to drive up the prices for the new season.

As already reported, the relatively low temperatures and moisture are favouring the formation of mildew. Just recently, censuses performed in the growing regions had confirmed the good crop predictions of approx. 700,000 mt. But some Turkish market players are already being sceptical. A trader said that new estimates should be published at the beginning of July. Farmers are warning about poor quality, and like in 2016, this year's crop is expected to contain many empty shells.

Lower prices for prompt deliveries
Compared to the beginning of the week, prices for prompt delivery offers decreased again, and the commodity prices in the country of origin have also dropped to 8.00-9.50 TRS/kg.

Farmers hope that commodity prices will increase appreciably at the start of the new season thanks to the bids by the TMO of 12.50 TRY/kg. Mainly the weather and the actual production volume for the 2017 hazelnut crop will be decisive for further price development.
