ORDU. Although the prices are much lower than last year, exports from Turkey have dropped by 9% this season so far. Market players are speculating over a possible deal between the TMO and Ferrero.

Lira on 8-week high

Turkey has so far exported 40,557 mt of hazelnut kernels since the season started in September. Although this figure presents a decline by 9% over last year (44,524 mt), it is still nearly twice as much as in the first six weeks in 2016/17.

Market players report that more and more companies from the confectionery and dried fruit industries are facing financial ruin due to the difficult economic situation. Last week’s temporary “reconciliation” between Turkey and the US pushed the Lira up to an 8-week high.
