Ferrero is by far the most important buyer of hazelnut kernels. The company purchases approximately 200,000 mt of in shells from Turkey per year and has already bought 100,000 mt since the start of the season. Thus, almost a third of the 2017 crop has been sold to Ferrero. The 2017 crop is said to amount to 650,000 mt of in shells. The company additionally supports farmers with important improvements, which are urgently needed.
