ORDU. Recent weather events and political upheaval are dominating the current market activities for hazelnuts in Turkey. Farmers are, however, much more concerned with a different issue. The TMO is currently selling good volumes.

Differing opinions over snowstorm

Opinions differ over the impact of last week’s snowstorm. While some suppliers highlight that sub-zero temperatures have been observed in mountainous areas and that a small crop damage has been reported in Ordu city, others are far less worried. Issue is that temperatures did not hit sub-zero at coast level and in mid-altitudes. The hazelnut shrubs in high-altitude farms will also only start blossoming in April meaning that there was no damage to the crop. A clearer picture will emerge in around two weeks’ time.
