Peanuts: China realises export increase of 65%

PEKING/BRUSSELS. The efforts by Chinese authorities to control peanut exporters to the EU more strictly have proven to be successful so far. Over the course of last year, the EU increased its peanut imports by almost 11%.

Fewer product anomalies
In the first quarters of the last few years alone, between 40–90 instances of increased aflatoxin values were reported for Chinese peanuts through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). Over the first three months of 2018, there were only 12 reports, with 2 more added in April. This positive development can be attributed to the efforts by Chinese authorities to guarantee inspections of peanuts registered to be exported to the EU.
