Peanuts: Indian exports have stalled

NEW DELHI/BRUSSELS. The war in Iran is having a noticeable impact on Indian peanut exports, as large quantities are usually shipped to the Gulf region. NAFED is currently unable to sell its stocks. EU imports have fallen compared with the same period last year.

Oil markets exerting pressure

Export prices for Indian peanuts are currently on an upward trend, but the situation on the spot markets is the opposite. Several factors are weighing on trade and could lead to significant price pressure in the coming weeks. The market for edible oils in particular has been volatile this month. Despite a 37% drop in palm oil production in Malaysia and a sustained decline in production over recent months, prices are falling steadily. One reason for this is the difficult supply situation in Western markets due to geopolitical conflicts.
