NEW DELHI. Buying interest in Indian peanuts has declined dramatically in key export destinations, partly due to the Chinese New Year and Ramadan. Sales by the Indian government will also have a noticeable impact on price developments.

Domestic demand as the only ray of hope

Export prices for Indian peanuts of non-EU quality remain strong, while a slight weakening can be observed on local spot markets. This is unusual, as international demand has almost completely come to a standstill after four weeks of continuous price increases. Current trade is based exclusively on domestic demand.

In addition, international trade faces further challenges and a slowdown. In China, demand remains sluggish in February due to the Chinese New Year celebrations. Demand from the Gulf states is also expected
