BUENOS AIRES/NEW DELHI. The Argentinian peanut crop has recovered this season and experts are giving their first estimates for the production in 2019/20.

Expectations for 2019/20
In the current GAIN Report of the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service, experts have raised their production estimates for 2018/19 based on data from the Grains Exchange of Cordoba.

Argentina's peanut crop recovered from the drought in the 2017/18 season and sufficient rainfall has resulted in a good yield per hectare.

On an area of 322 ha, 1.15 million mt peanuts are to be harvested this season. This corresponds to an increase in production of 33%, while the area under cultivation was 16% smaller. A total of 1.63 million mt of peanuts will be available on the Argentinian market this season, around 24% more than in the previous year.

The 2018/19 harvest has not even been completed yet, and experts are already making predictions for Argentine peanut production in 2019/20. An estimated 340,000 ha are to be planted for the coming crop, an increase of 5% over the current season. With an average yield per hectare, the 2019/20 crop would reach 1.13 million mt.

Indian peanuts are more expensive than in 2018
At an estimated 4.7 million mt, Indian peanut production in 2018/19 was almost 30% lower than in the previous year. This is also reflected in the prices. Compared to April 2018, the prices for peanuts, bold rose by 100-200 USD/mt. The offers for Java peanuts, on the other hand, are in a similar range as a year ago. Currently, prices are largely stable with a slight upward trend.
