WASHINGTON, D.C./NEW DELHI. The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) has revised global production estimates in the January report on oilseeds. Market players are concerned over the US crop. Prepared peanuts from India have gained in importance in the EU.

Global production to decline

FAS has revised the 2019/2020 global production estimates for peanuts downwards. While production was estimated at 45.52 million metric tonnes in December, the current figure stands at 45.44 million metric tonnes, which is a decline of nearly 3% over 2018/2019. Production in China is still projected to rise by 3% to 17.5 million metric tonnes. Production in India is also unchanged at 6.2 million metric tonnes, a sharp rise of 31% over 2018/2019.
