NEW DELHI/BRUSSELS. Indonesia has once again tightened its controls, resulting in Indian agricultural goods being detained at ports. This is causing uncertainty, as is the lower demand for Ramadan. EU imports are declining slightly.

Negative factors for trade

The peanut market is showing a slight upward trend this week and is characterised by both positive and negative factors. Overall, the price trend remains uncertain. On the negative side, two aspects in particular are causing restraint in trade. Firstly, Indonesia has once again introduced strict controls, resulting in large quantities of various agricultural commodities – including around 1,700 mt of peanuts – being detained at the port of Tanjung Balai Karimun. This has caused uncertainty, particularly among Indian exporters.
