Peanuts: optimistic outlook in the USA

NEW DELHI/ATLANTA. In India, prices continue to fall and demand for peanut oil and seeds is extremely low. In the USA, the outlook is much better, while there have been harvest delays in Nicaragua.

Indian peanut prices are still continuing their downward trend and so far there is no improvement in sight. Indian traders report that there is currently virtually no demand for peanut oil and consumers are switching to alternatives such as sunflower oil. As a result, oil mills are not stocking up and this drop in demand is putting considerable pressure on prices.
