NEW DELHI/ATLANTA. After a prolonged period of heat and drought, rain has now changed the situation in the US. Prices should decline in India in the next few weeks.

Bumper crop possible in India

Peanuts may be showing minor improvements in India at the moment, but a minium 3-4% downfall is inevitable. The main reason is that a bumper crop is expected in the state of Gujarat. As farmers were unable to receive good returns from soybeans and cotton, they sowed nearly 1.75-1.8 million ha with peanuts instead. Yields will at least range at 1,750-1,820 kg/ha. Another reason is that the government has increased the Minimum Support Price for peanuts.
