ATLANTA. In Spring, the International Dried Fruit and Nuts Council reckoned with a US production of 136,200 mt. This year’s hurricane season has, however, caused considerable damage.

Crop losses in the US and Mexico

Production in the South East is now expected to decline by 15-20%. It should, however, be noted that the hurricane season is not over yet and it remains to be seen how much damage has been caused. The USA and Mexico are responsible for 90% of global production. Crop losses are also expected in Mexico. In some regions, the crop size is even reckoned to drop by up to 40%. This will probably have a considerable impact on global production.

Prices are set to rise

Market players expect US prices to stabilise for now or at least until new crop estimates become available towards the end of the month. It is possible that prices will rise above 7.00 USD/lb (ca. 13.00 EUR/kg) before the new crop arrives in the market. Traders therefore urge their buyers to already conduct purchases for December.
