ATLANTA. The US pecan nut harvest is set to begin in about two months. Old crop supplies are limited.

 

US production similar in size to last year
Producers and traders wish to avoid carry over stocks, which is why US pecan nuts are being offered at lower prices than a few weeks ago. Another factor to be considered are the declining exports to China.

In May, US production was expected to reach 152,000mt, but more recent estimates are rather ranging at 140,000 mt, which is roughly in line with last year's production. The new crop will not be ready for shipping before October. Market players are therefore not expecting another significant decre
