Pistachios: Price decline after season peak

TEHRAN. Despite the steady decline in the pistachio acreages in Iran since the year 2000, market players are expecting a rise in exports of 11% this season. This prediction is favoured by the drop in prices in the last few weeks.

 

Up to 15% in 3 weeks

In Iran, the marketing year is calculated from March to February. In the first four months (March 21-July 22), about 16,700 mt of pistachios were exported, and it is expected to reach a total of 150,000 mt of pistachios, worth 1.5 billion US dollars. With 235,000 mt, the 2017 production should not only be 38% higher than last year, but the crop volume should also reach a level similar to the USA.
