Pistachios: trading at a standstill

ISTANBUL/FRESNO. Dubai chocolate is not to blame for the current standstill in trading pistachios in Turkey. US exports were highly disappointing in September. Yet, the tide is about to turn with more upbeat prospects emerging in California.

Dubai chocolate not to blame

According to exporters it is impossible to find raw nuts to offer to customers despite there being enough stocks in Gaziantep to last for three years. Exporters blame stockists and speculators. Stockists holding on to supplies in a bid drive up the market have been highly successful. While rumour had it that Dubai chocolate producers were buying extensive volumes of pistachios, this is not the price driver. Issue is rather that manipulative pricing is limiting trading activities.
