ORDU. Market players are expecting massive surpluses on the hazelnut market for the 2017/18 season, but this does not automatically mean that the price level will fall.

What will be, will be
There are more and more signs that the 2017 hazelnut crop will be great, and more and more talk among market players about the high yield potential of Turkish hazelnuts. The prices are increasingly under pressure, and according to reports, suppliers will generally yield to the asking prices from customers for deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Not all traders can share this euphoria, all too often in the past have the market and weather made a 180° turn when things were looking particularly good. In addition to the possibility of a season with buyer-friendly price levels, there is also the possibility that the frost might come back, and the referendum is also coming up next weekend. Two important factors that can still have a decisive influence on the market development.

Exports are on the fast track
Exports are still going unusually well for this time of year, last week once again about 5,000 mt of hazelnuts were delivered abroad. Nonetheless, the prices are still decreasing and have dropped significantly, particularly in the second half of last week.
