MALATYA. While there are plenty of dried sulphured apricots, there is a shortage of unsulphured and of organic fruits in Turkey this year.

Organic dried apricots are nearly twice as expensive

Problem is that the regions in which organic apricots are mainly cultivated have suffered from heavy rains this year. This has resulted in a significant decline in production. Buyers pay nearly twice as much for organic dried apricots as for conventional dried apricots.

The supplies of unsulphured dried apricots are alos very much limited this year. Unlike last year the dark colour of the fruits is not as much required to hide visual flaws, which is the farmers have increasingly opted for sulphured fruits
