ORDU. Rumour has it that Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan wants to lift the prices for hazelnuts. Growers are, meanwhile, trying to make the most of coronavirus restrictions at the start of the season. The first new crop arrivals have already been shipped.

Growers may struggle to finish harvesting before schools start back

Schools in Turkey will return from the summer break with three weeks of remote teaching, before opening again on 21 September. The benefit is that the growers and their families will have enough time to finish harvesting before many have to return to the towns. Many migrant workers will also not be required, which saves money. Market players are, however, concerned that many families may be forced to return to their homes earlier as tougher coronavirus regulations are being introduced every day.
