Walnuts: contradicting production estimates

SACRAMENTO. Market observers have recently issued production estimates that differ widely. Global production estimates are, by contrast, surprisingly uniform.

Global production to reach nearly 2.3 million mt

The International Nut and Dried Fruit Council estimates global walnut production at 2.296 million mt, a 9.1% rise over last year. Yet, the figure ranges 12,000 mt above USDA estimates. The two organisations mainly differ on China and Chile, along with Ukraine and Turkey.
