Pistachios: wild fluctuations in price

TEHRAN. The gradual reopening of markets and attractive prices accelerated Iran’s pistachio exports in April till August. Recently issued production estimates also highly encouraging for this year. Prices have, however, fluctuated widely in recent weeks.

Surprisingly good export performance

Despite US sanctions, government restrictions on the transfer and exchange of foreign currencies and the coronavirus pandemic, Iran managed to ship 140,186 mt of pistachios overseas in 2019/2020 (October-September) as customs data shows. This is 2.3% up on the 136,989 shipped in the same period in 2017/2018, which is the previous “on year” in terms of production.
