Pistachios: Trump gives exports a boost

TEHRAN. Pistachio exporters in Iran certainly profited from Donald’s Trump fierce rhetoric in the run up to the US presidential elections. Overseas shipments received a boost in October. The pandemic has, however, taken its hold on the market in the last few weeks.

Attractive prices in Iran

Exports normally pick in October once the new crop arrives. This year, the market has, however, received an additional boost. Iran shipped as much as 25,150 mt overseas between 22 September and 21 October. This is 147% up on the same period last year. Market players do not only attribute this rise to the arrival of the new crop but also to the US presidential elections.
