Raisins: untimely drying impacts quality

TEHRAN. Although raisin production is up in Zanjan province, the quality is less encouraging. Traders are reckoning with a shift in price in January.

Disappointing quality

Although Zanjan province only ranks seventh in terms of grape production, raisins are crucial to Iran’s export market. Zanjan’s raisins are, for instance, shipped to Russia. The Zanjan Agricultural Organization estimates that 240,000 mt of grapes were harvested this year and that raisin production ranges at 25,000 mt. Although production is certainly up on last year when frost damaged 30% of the crop and limited production at 180,000 mt, the market is anything but satisfied with the quality.
