Sultanas: weather fluctuations unsettle market

MANISA. After temperatures climbed as high as 20C frosty weather has now been forecast in Turkey. This may very well have an impact on sultana production.

Vines under stress

After witnessing springlike weather temperatures are now expected to drop below freezing again in Istanbul and in the west of Turkey over the next few days. Growers are concerned that these drastic shifts in weather will expose the vines to too much stress, which will have an adverse impact on yields. Weekly exports are also far from satisfying. They most recently ranged at 4,084 mt, which is around 200 mt less than the volumes shipped overseas in the same period last year.
