Pistachios: Iran’s supplies impact US sales

TEHRAN/SACRAMENTO/MADRID. Exceptional demand has driven up pistachio exports from Iran this season. Competition is, however, fierce in Europe. Global production estimates have also been revised.

Exceptional demand drives up exports

Iran has shipped nearly 122,000 mt of pistachios in the first five months of the season as data issued by the Iran Pistachio Association shows. Volumes only ranged higher in the record crop years 2007 and 2014. This figure comprises all pistachio varieties. Overseas shipments for 21 January to 20 February ranged at 16,388 mt. Exports to the Far East have nearly tripled to 62,000 mt between September and February and are roughly on par with the US, which shipped 61,000 mt to the Far East in the same period.
