Wheat: harvest to officially begin next week

SOFIA. Farmers will officially open the harvesting season on 14.06.2017 in the vicinity of the town of Karnobat, in the Southeast region of the country. The customary opening will go through normal ritual practices, wishing farmers strong season and luck in their harvesting and trade endeavors. Depending on the region and weather conditions, farmers usually will begin to harvest their fields later in the month.

Defining characteristics of harvest 2016-17

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, by the end of last week, exports stood at 4,048,632 mt. This year’s exports broke the 4,000,000 mt ceiling because the aggregate output was the highest during the last several years; the quality of wheat was high; and local prices have been competitive on the international market. Some weeks before the end of harvesting season 2016-17, the country’s remaining quantities stood at 378,415 mt.
