PEKING. The Chinese pumpkin seed market lacks both foreign and domestic demand. European buyers...

... can still use up their already imported supplies, while interest in new shipments is currently low.

Market players confirm the good condition of the pumpkin plants in Xinjiang province, which is why a significant increase in production of Shine Skins can be expected thanks to a larger acreage. GWS kernels should also be available in sufficient quantities, and possible bottlenecks in the 2020/2021 season should be filled by alternative goods.

New crop at attractive prices

There is currently little volatility in export prices for prompt shipments. The focus is on the new crop. Here the offers for GWS kernels are comparable to the spot prices of Chinese traders, which would currently still mean that the prices for Grade A are around USD 200 per metric tonne more expensive than last year.

The prices for Shine Skins from the new crop are set lower than for spot purchases, but here too the markup for grade A is USD 200 per metric tonne compared with last year. Market players justify this with increased demand for this quality, which is why the difference to Grade AA goods is shrinking. The offers for new crop are now as low as in autumn 2018.
