BEIJING. Traders in China have finally been able to visit the pumpkin fields in Xinjiang. Processing has already started and GWS production has exceeded expectations.

Production to reach 36,000 mt

While heavy rains have frequently been reported in parts of China over the last few weeks, the weather in Xinjiang, one of the most important growing regions for pumpkin kernels in export quality, was much milder. Processing is already underway and will be completed over the next few weeks. Market players reckon that the area sown ranges at 40,000 ha and average yields are estimated at 900 kg/ha, meaning that Shine Skin production may reach 36,000 ha. Supplies of AA grade kernels are, nevertheless, expected to be more limited than last
