Pumpkin seeds: the gamble continues

DALIAN. Prices continue to climb in China. Trouble is that speculators hold large volumes of pumpkin seeds and can set prices at will. This has also impacted the export market.

Shopping spree continues

The prices for A grade shine skin kernels have surged from CNY 16.30/kg to CNY 19.00/kg within only one month. While export demand is rather subded, the contrary is the case for domestic demand. This may well prompt speculators drive up prices further. Since the new crop will only arrive in around three months there is plenty of time for them to do so as long as the market plays along. The export prices for A grade shine skin kernels have climbed to USD 3,860/mt CFR EMP.
