Pumpkin seeds: GWS prices reach highest level in three years

BEIJING. Despite the holidays in China last week, the pumpkin seed prices increased further. The reason is speculative buying by Chinese traders.

Traders and speculators drive up prices

After traders and speculators had already caused GWS prices to rise through targeted investments, they are now trying to do the same with Shine Skin kernels. When farmgate prices reached a level of CNY 11.80/kg, this was the starting signal for the second wave of purchases. Traders stocked up as a precaution, and the price increase was further fuelled by speculators. This in turn led to increased demand from traders who wanted to hedge against even higher prices.
