BEIJING. Farmgate prices for shine skins and GWS kernels have declined slightly, but will increase again as the new crop arrives on the market. It is difficult for buyers to know the perfect time for their purchases.

Price increases with the arrival of the new crop

After prices for shine skins had skyrocketed in the past months, traders now report first price reductions. Nevertheless, farmgate prices are still above average at CNY 17/kg. At the beginning of the week, there was little activity on the Chinese market due to the Mid-Autumn Festival. Most market players expect the commodity price to settle at CNY 16/kg in the near future, although some more sceptical voices are predicting CNY 16.5/kg.
