PEKING. The prices for Chinese pumpkin seeds in Grade A and Grade AA quality have rarely been as close to each other as they are this season. As a consequence, the price adjustments of the exporters have very different effects on the price level.

GWS kernels from USD 2,715 per metric tonne

The price reductions for pumpkin seeds, Grade A only ensured that the offers are still at the comparatively high level of the beginning of the year and thus USD 400 per metric tonne more expensive than in May 2019. In contrast to this, the export prices for pumpkin seeds, GWS, Grade AA are with EUR 2.80 per kg even slightly below last year's level.

Chinese traders continue to report low demand from abroad and it does not look like the situation is going to change soon. However, significantly lower prices are not expected in the coming months until the new crop arrives. The demand from domestic roasting plants is sufficient and keeps prices for shine skins at the current level, while prices for GWS seeds are also unlikely to decline much further due to lower availability, despite the lack of export demand.
