DALIAN. As large quantities of snow whites were wrongly labelled as shine skins, the remaining shine skin stocks on the Chinese pumpkin seed market are lower than initially expected. Prices rose after the New Year celebrations.

Fatal error

After trading on the Chinese pumpkin seed market came to a virtual standstill during the Chinese New Year, it has now largely recovered after another quiet week. However, the amount of shine skins still available has surprised market players; while estimates were recently at 75,000 mt, the volume now appears to be significantly lower, as large quantities of snow whites had apparently been declared as shine skins. Speculators, who hold a large proportion of the goods, are now working to determine the actual quantity.
