DALIAN. Considerably smaller acreages for the upcoming crop are giving rise to scenarios on the Chinese pumpkin seed market similar to those witnessed two years ago.

Everything is relative

The point at which market players allow themselves to be carried away with speculations has now already been reached. They are buying up the remaining stocks and are thus continually driving up the prices. The only consolation for buyers at this time is that despite the rapid increase over the last few weeks, the level is still below that of last year, and the all-time high of 2015 is still a long way off.

Prices can differ strongly depending on the supplier, but the overall trend continues to rise. A price decline is out of the question for the time being, and the new season will start at least at the same level as last year. In how far a price drop may be possible on 2017/18 depends on the actual supply and the corresponding demand.
