Pumpkin seeds: speculators drive market

DALIAN. Contrary to expectations, the prices for pumpkin seeds have surged at the start of the new season in China. Low end-of-season stocks and busy speculators are driving the market.

Downturn fails to materialise

Initial expectation was that the prices for shine skin kernels would drop with the arrival of the new crop in China, but this has not happened so far. Peristently good demand has even prompted an uptick in October. Issue is that many traders did not carry any supplies into the new season and needed to stock up, which supported the market and may prevent price declines in the near future.
