Raisins: buyers advised to wait

TEHRAN/BEIJING. Although exports are only nominally up on last year in the first quarter of the Iranian year, which runs from late March till late June, average export prices range on a similar level. Demand is, therefore, certainly up for raisins. Grapes are, however, not only being harvested in Iran but also in China, where production estimates have been issued.

Low inventories weigh on demand for green raisins

Iran shipped 36,969 mt of raisins worth USD 48.339 million overseas in the first quarter. Exports are thereby 7.42% up in terms of weight on the 25,905 mt exported in the same period last year and 8.4% up in terms of value. At USD 1.30/kg, average export prices, however, range on a similar level. Sultana raisins are the most popular variety by far as shipments account for as much as 55% of total exports in the three-month period. Average export prices range highest for green raisins.
