SOFIA. The recent rains fell too late for some regions while for others, they will have a quite benevolent effect.

BULGARIA. The lack of necessary precipitation earlier in the month and the deficiency of required soil moisture are the two factors that will affect the potential of the crop. Because of such natural conditions, sowing was belated in some regions, as by the end of last week, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, farmers planted 67,579 ha of Winter rapeseed.

Sowing activities are unfolding throughout the country, and the latest rains – reaching as high as 30 to 50 l/sq.m. in some places – will be quite beneficial for the recently sown rapeseed, as well as, for its counterparts such as barley and wheat.

Rapeseed: Weather has only recently favored farmers

The optimal period for sowing rapeseed already passed. During the whole of August and for the majority of September, until just recently, weather conditions were dry and temperatures were above average for the period. Farmers had to start sowing, going against the grain of unfavorable weather conditions, and sowing they did.

As a result, those farmers, who started sowing the crop earlier, are doubtful the crop will develop well. However, farmers, who started planting the crop recently, will benefit from the latest unexpected high precipitation.
