Sesame seeds: domestic demand helps to firm prices

NEW DELHI. Despite market players' concerns about the impact of the abolition of the export duties on Indonesian palm oil, prices in the Indian domestic sesame seed market are moving slowly but steadily upwards. However, expectations cannot be fulfilled.

Things are moving too slowly

Despite the continuing upward trend, except for a few plateaus, sesame seed prices are still not at the level that traders had expected. Currently, hulled sesame seeds, 99.98% purity are trading at USD 1,920-2,110/mt FOB India in the Indian market. Meanwhile, export prices for EU buyers are at USD 2,325-2,395/mt CFR Hamburg.
