Sesame seeds: good crop estimates in India

NEW DELHI. South Korea's recent tender has only had a limited impact on India's sesame seed market. Prospects are highly encouraging for this year's production. Yet, the next two weeks will prove decisive.

Little impact

Although suppliers from India won 80% of the bids in last week's tender, the impact on prices is limited. Subdued demand and sufficient supplies are causing prices to remain fixed. The export prices for hulled sesame seeds with a 99.98% purity in EU quality presently range at USD 2,345/mt CIF European Main Ports.

South Korea purchased an additional 4,740 mt of sesame seeds last week to be delivered between mid-November and the start of December. Exporters from India won bids over 3,802 mt of sesame seeds, from Pakistan over 637 mt and from Nige
