NEW DELHI. In view of the crop losses in India, traders had imported additional goods, but the hoped-for price advantage failed to materialise. There is a lack of demand in the market.

Upward trend has ended

The upward trend for Indian sesame seed prices has come to an abrupt end. After sesame seeds from India had become steadily more expensive for about two months, the big break now came as this level could not prevail in the market. In the domestic market, prices fell by USD 5-30/mt, depending on variety and quality, while export prices for shipments to the EU have at least stabilised for the time being. Hulled sesame seeds, 99.95% purity are offered for USD 2,450/mt CIF Hamburg as last week.
