Sesame seeds: lifting of export duties worries Indian traders

NEW DELHI. Indian traders are worried about the domestic sesame seed market. After Indonesia recently reduced export duties on palm oil, even more drastic measures have been taken.

Palm oil puts pressure on

Indonesian warehouses are groaning under high palm oil stocks. In order to accelerate the shipments, the export duty has now been set completely to zero up to and including the end of August. So far, just 34-35% of what was shipped overseas in the same period last year has been exported. The need for action became clear when palm oil prices on local spot markets plummeted by 15-16% within a few hours, according to market players.
